2007 The health value of bacteriophages |
Bacteriophages (‘phages) are ultra-microscopic waterborne viruses that, by definition, infect and destroy only bacteria, so they have many applications including medicine. There is very little awareness in the UK except via specialist literature, so Grace arranged visits to clinics, hospitals and university labs in the Republic of Georgia, Poland and USA and set out to ensure that information is available about phage therapy for the general public. |

An immediate outcome was a series of invitations to international conferences in Canada, USA, Poland, Georgia, France, England and Scotland, providing more opportunities to meet leading scientists and physicians. Grace's blog and online videos have an international following. She is in regular contact with key organisations e.g. the Ministry of Defence over a key G8 report and the MRSA Survivors Network in USA. As a result of the Churchill Fellowship, Grace is now a contributing author to a scientific international mini-review, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Science and Engineering Ambassador. She is in regular correspondence with politicians and government organisations about unresolved public health topics. Grace also provides illustrated talks based on the medical, military and historical archives locally, and her research with contacts all round the world. Links
