Claire Ford visited the USA to learn from programmes using the arts to enhance the lives of older people and those with dementia.

Stephen wants to strengthen and reintroduce, jazz to British musicians. He went to the USA in search of ways to inspire and enable musicians to learn, enjoy and play jazz back in the UK.

Laura is an artist with a fascination for bricks. She travelled to Europe, South America and China to explore and compare different methods of brickwork, brick manufacturing and brick laying in different cultures through history. She was looking at the impact on modern day society and how she might use all aspects of this research in her art.

Sadie crossed the Atlantic to Manteo to research the links back to her home town of Bideford. The 'Lost Colonists' sailed from Bideford in 1587 and Sadie wanted to see if she could trace any of the town's ancestors. She was also keen to investigate other connections between Bideford and parts of North Carolina and Virginia.

Laura is an artist who uses bricks as a medium in her work. In true Churchillian tradition, she taught herself to lay bricks but wanted to expand her knowledge and understanding of the history and traditions of this universal building material. She travelled to Europe, South America and China in persuit of bricks.
