Fellow Tina Lee wins European Citizen's Prize 2015

Tina Ellen Lee, the Artistic Director and Producer of Opera Circus, the UK performing arts organisation and charity, has been awarded the European Citizen’s Prize 2015.

Since 2008 the Parliament awards the European Citizen’s Prize every year to projects and initiatives that facilitate cross-border cooperation or promote mutual understanding within the EU. The prize is also intended to acknowledge the work of those who through their day-to-day activities promote European values.

Opera Circus works nationally and internationally producing contemporary opera and music theatre linked to musical processes concerned with social change.

Tina, a 2014 Fellow in the Music in Education category, said, “This prize also goes to all the artists and advisors, partners and organisations and the many hundreds of young people who have led, participated in and contributed to the work, whether throughout the years in the UK, Serbia, Romania or Bosnia and Herzegovina, and more recently in Georgia, Italy and Portugal."

“Cultural awareness, tolerance, inclusiveness, deeper learning, understanding of the other is at the heart of this creative process.”
