Art Therapy: digital devices, tablet computers, palliative care, chronic illness
The aim of my Fellowship was to gain knowledge of digital art therapy to benefit interventions in palliative care, and in training art therapists in the UK. Interviews with art therapists and researchers using digital technology in North America were conducted. Findings confirm that portable devices (smartphones and tablet computers) and larger devices (desktop computers and digital touchscreen tables) are becoming normalised within domestic, health care and social care environments. These are being used for psycho-educational and art therapeutic purposes, to support existing therapeutic work, and extend resources. This report recommends investment in digital art therapy to benefit palliative care.
