PTSD: the power of dogs and the positivity of helping comrades

This report looks at how specially trained assistance dogs can mitigate the symptoms of PTSD in veterans from the armed forces and emergency services. It will look at the effect of oxytocin and how humans and dogs can share it lowering stress and anxiety in both. The practical application of animal assisted intervention by different organisations will be compared to define a working model for the UK. Through meeting with key members of these organisations 'best practise' will be identified to develop an PTSD assistance dog organisation here at home for our veterans, for which there is a pressing need.
