Using valid research-evidence to inform crisis interventions with children
There is very little evidence to guide psychological interventions for children who have experienced traumatic events. The evidence does inform certain approaches and the NCTSN in the US have developed and put into practice a manual based on these approaches. The Yale Child Study Centre have developed an intervention for children and families to be delivered within a month of the event, that has been proven to be effective at reducing PTSD and anxiety. I was able to visit the developers of these interventions and hope to influence practice in the UK.
