I am a Queen's Nurse working in Cornwall specialising in dementia care. I want to focus my work around the needs and challenges faced by people who are lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender (LGBT) with dementia and their carers as I had professional experience of a trans woman who developed Alzheimer’s disease and became confused about her identity and how distressing it was for her and others. Through my own research I found that there is growing interest in this area with Australia providing excellent training and services to care home staff and professionals. Thanks to the WCMT I am going to Australia to learn more about these services and how we can improve our own.
