After over a decade working with individual artists and arts organisations while also working in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, I’m really excited to have the opportunity to bring both disciplines together in one Project. During my Churchill Fellowship I will travel to the USA and Japan to witness best practice in Outsider Art, namely work made by untrained artists who may also experience mental health challenges. As the Presenter of BBC1’s Life After Suicide, I have witnessed first hand the difference that publically challenging a stigma can make to the national conversation. I hope to achieve the same in Outsider Art.
