I am delighted to have been awarded a 2017 fellowship to travel to Canada, Australia and New Zealand to explore how families are involved in investigating the deaths of learning disabled people. I hope to incorporate a focus on advocacy, activism, deinstitutionalisation and legal redress as mechanisms of support for bereaved relatives, and methods of improving care and patient safety for people with a learning disability. I work as a freelance knowledge transfer consultant focusing on getting research and knowledge to people who need it most and I am also a Visiting Fellow at PSSRU (LSE). I am interested in most things, especially people and people watching; research and impact; social (in)justice; death and dying; memorial benches; knitting, stitching and craftivism.
