Lorna is a Research Associate working in Children’s Social Care research at Cardiff University. She has worked on a range of projects exploring social work practice and its potential to improve the lives of families with the uniting aim of improving service delivery for families, young people and children that need social welfare support. She is keen to incorporate the lived experience of those who have experienced services by taking a participatory approach. She herself grew up in foster care, and was a kinship carer for a sibling, so brings this perspective to her writing and research. Being a Churchill Fellow reflects her commitment to learning from the experiences of people from different cultures and social environments across the globe. This opportunity to travel to Cambodia, India and Japan to explore how kinship care is supported by government, communities and NGOs will allow her the chance to improve provision across the UK.
