I am a chartered planning and development surveyor, working as an independent public interest practitioner, with public and private sector experience of housing, planning and delivering mixed-use development, urban extensions, new settlements, and community-led neighbourhood regeneration. Since 2006, I have represented my professional body, the RICS, on the Housing Forum and DCLG’s Housing Sounding Board, and chaired the Land, Procurement & Strategic Planning sub-group of the Government Industry Self-Build Working Group which launched government policies for custom building, including changes to the National Planning Policy Framework. I proposed the Right to Build in Design Council CABE’s 2009 book “Who should build our homes?” I am a board member of both the National CLT & UK Cohousing Networks. I speak and write on professional ethics, citizen-inspired housing, and the operation (or more usually the non-operation) of land and housing markets.
